Miracle on Paper Street

Dates & Times: December 17 – 20 at 8:00 pm and December 20 at 2:30 pm (family matinee)
Location: Intrepid Theatre Club (1609 Blanshard Street)

Miracle on Paper Street is an improvised Christmas classic created by Paper Street Theatre. The show is inspired by holiday classics such as It’s a Wonderful Life, The Bells of St Mary’s, and Miracle on 34th Street.

What a wonderful way to bring in the holidays this year with the entire family!

Christmas Carol Sing-Along

Date: Thursday, December 18
Time: 11:45 am – 1:15 pm
Location: St. Andrew’s Church

Sing along to traditional Christmas tunes at St. Andrew’s Church. The tunes will be accompanied by an organ, violin and vocal presentations. Enjoy complimentary cookies and hot apple drinks as well!

Frozen Castle Dance Party

Date: Saturday, December 20
Time: 12:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Location: Market Square

The entire family will enjoy this fantastic Christmas event!  The event features a wintry walk-in cardboard castle for young children to decorate and travel through. And, of course, dance music for everyone to show off their dance moves!

The Victoria Symphony features Canadian soprano singer, Eve-Lyn de la Haye, singing various Christmas favourites in this special event. She will be joined by actor, Kelt Eccleston, to present a unique version of A Christmas Carol.

Fun with Gingerbread

Date: December 13
Time: 11:30 am – 2:30 pm
Location: Victoria Public Market

Jump into the Christmas spirit by creating your very own gingerbread house at the Victoria Public Market! All necessary materials needed to construct the perfect gingerbread will be supplied. Although the event is free, all donations will go towards the charity, Santa’s Anonymous.

This event is perfect for the entire family!

Tuba Christmas

Date: December 13
Time: 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Location: Market Square

Watch over 65 tuba players from BC and the Northwest come together to play numerous Christmas songs. This assemble originates from New York City’s Rockfeller Center from over 40 years ago!

Royal Winnipeg’s Ballet: The Nutcracker

A true holiday classic, the Nutcracker is presented by the Royal Winnipeg’s Ballet. The story takes the audience on the journey of Clara, her Nutcracker Prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy. The performance features several Canadian scenes including a frozen-over pond hockey game and a battle on Parliament Hill.

Enjoy the wonderful costumes and sparkling sets in this magnificent performance! Not to mention, the Nutcracker is perfect for the entire family.

A Christmas Story, the Musical

Another classic holiday film, A Christmas Story, comes to life in this brilliant musical. The main character is Ralphie, a little boy who’s Christmas dream is to own a BB-gun, however; his parents and teacher warn him of the dangers of it

The story goes on to showcase the crazy adventures Ralphie sets out on to ensure that he receives the present he wants most. A tongue stuck to a frozen flag pole, a Chinese Christmas dinner and a bar of soap in the month are just a few things he encounters.

Bastion Square Holiday Pop-up Market

The Huron Carol – A Musical

Bring in the season with the annual Christmas light-up across Canada at the Parliament Buildings. The Legislative lawn is just minutes away from the Royal Scot Hotel. Watch as the provincial tree and Parliament Buildings become lite with thousands of Christmas lights. Afterwards, enjoy hot chocolate and festive treats! Tis’ the season!

Centennial Square Christmas Tree Light-Up

Get into the Christmas spirit with an early kick-off to this season’s lights! Come down to Centennial Square and watch a newly founded Victoria tradition come to life. Thousands of lights brighten downtown at 5:00 pm. As well, ride the Ferris wheel for only a toonie, a sure way to achieve a beautiful view of the lights and downtown Victoria! The night will be accompanied by musical performances and festive treats, you surely will not want to miss out!

23rd Annual Festival of Trees

Dates: November 19 – January 6
Time: All day, every day until 11: 00 pm
Location: Fairmont Empress

The Fairmont Empress is celebrating its 23rd Festival of Trees event. The event runs yearly, in support of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Local businesses, organizations and individuals come together to decorate trees during the holiday season. There are several unique tree decorating ideas, so be sure to check out each tree showcased!

On the Ice

Dates: November 20 – January 16
Times:

Weekends 12:00 pm – 9:00 pm
Location: Fairmont Empress

The Empress opens its skating rink near the end of November! Enjoy the winter season with festive events the rink will feature, including: Sunday Skates with Santa and Christmas Eve Skating with the Elves. Each pair of skates rented is $5.00.

Canada’s National Gingerbread Showcase

Location: Inn at Laurel Point

Created with detail and precision, these gingerbread houses are sure to leave you in awe! The creativity is derived from professional and amateur chefs.

This year’s theme, Where Things Live, is based upon the charity: Habitat for Humanity. Visitors are encouraged to make a donation to Habitat for Humanity while at the event!

16th Annual Downtown Victoria Gallery Walk

TEDxVictoria: Pursuit of Knowledge

Have you heard of the famous TED Talk videos? Victoria welcomes the 4th annual TEDxVictoria, hosted in the McPherson Playhouse. TEDxVictoria was founded in 2010, purely for individuals to share inspiring ideas, insights and innovations and create connections within the community. It is an independently-organized TED event that is based upon the original TED conference.

The theme for this year is Pursuit of Knowledge: bringing some of the most inspiring and interesting ideas to the public through live talks and videos. The day will be filled with numerous speakers and performers.

Just for Laughs Comedy Tour

Just for Laughs was founded in 1983 and is world-wide known for its TV show Gags. Be prepared to laugh until your stomach hurts!

Max and Ruby in the Nutcracker Suite

Max and Ruby come to life in this magical performance based on one of the greatest musical scores: Nutcracker Suite. Stars of the famous TV series, Max and Ruby, this duo is loved around the world by children.

The performance is set on the Eve of Christmas, when Max and Ruby receive a magical package that contains pieces from the story the Nutcracker Ballet. Grandma reads Max and Ruby the Nutcracker story, and as the show goes on, they become part of the Nutcracker story themselves!

The performance is full of dance, and Christmas spirit; perfect for the entire family to attend.
