Victoria Dragon Boat Festival

Dates: August 16, 2013 to August 18, 2013
Location: Victoria’s Inner Harbour

Come and experience one of Victoria’s most spectacular summer festivals and the only Dragon Boat Festival in Canada to take place in a working harbour.
90 Dragon Boat Teams from across North America are set to race across a 500-metre water course in Victoria’s beautiful Inner Harbour.

The event will open with Taoist Priests blessing the boats and “awakening the dragons” on Friday, August 16th at 1:00pm. The races will take place on Saturday, August 17th and Sunday, August 18th.  Spectators will get to enjoy the races from the best grandstand on the West Coast and cheer on the paddlers in one of the most beautiful and exciting venues for Dragon Boat Races in the world.

This event will have something for the entire family to enjoy, including two stages of entertainment, a kids’ tent and food from around the world in the Forbidden City Food Court.

Celebrate BC Day

Location: St. Ann’s Academy – 835 Humboldt Street, Victoria, BC
Time: 12:00pm to 9:00pm

If you’re looking for some free, fun activities for the whole family this BC Day, take them down to Celebrate BC Day at St. Ann’s Academy.

Festivities will feature the finest from the province’s talented creators and artists, selected through a successful province-wide public submission process that took place this past May. Festivities will include:

BC Eats Stage, a live food stage featuring Vancouver Island chefs.

Sounds of BC, live performances from bands from around the province including Delhi 2 Dublin and Bobs and LoLo.

Through the BC Lens, a showcase including short videos from five BC filmmakers.

Capture BC, a photography exhibit displaying submissions from BC residents, as well as an archival display.

There will be plenty for kids to do with a craft tent, interactive photo booth and participatory music ensemble. There will also be a selection of food vendors on-site as well as a local market selling all sorts of goodies!

Victoria Symphony Splash

Location: Victoria’s Inner Harbour

The annual Victoria Symphony Splash is a spectacular event that sees Victoria’s beautiful Inner Harbour transformed into an outdoor concert stage. This event takes place on a floating stage moored in Victoria’s Inner Harbour. It includes musical entertainment, food, souvenirs and the evening’s highlight: a live performance by the Victoria Symphony.

The music performed is a mix of classical and popular selections and one (or two) talented young soloists are featured each year. The concert concludes with a performance of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, complete with bells, cannons, and fireworks

Many people arrive early to ensure they have a good view of the barge for the orchestra performance at 7:30pm. The Family Zone opens from 1:00pm – 4:00pm, and the opening act (2013 opening act features Chris Millington and Dancin’) begins at 4:00pm. The Splash will conclude at approximately 10:00pm.

Victoria International Buskers Festival

Performers from Australia, the UK, South America, the US and from across Canada will meet in Victoria for ten days of incredible fun. Streets will be transformed into a backdrop of flame throwers, jugglers, unicyclists, magicians, circus performers and comedians. This event is a family oriented, free-to-attend festival presented on mostly outdoor stages across downtown Victoria.

Come and visit Vancouver Island’s largest outdoor visual art event!

On July 20, 2013 the TD Art Gallery Paint-In will be celebrating its 26th year. The Paint-In is a community outreach initiative featuring 150 invited professional and emerging artists from Victoria and surrounding areas. Various artists take their studios to the street to display and produce their work on Moss Street between Fort Street and Dallas Road.

Pacific Tattoo

What is a tattoo?
A tattoo (the military kind, as opposed to the inky, painful kind) is a demonstration of precision military drumming, piping or musical expertise.

The Pacific Tattoo will be coming to Victoria for the dates of July 13 and 14, 2013 with a new program of amazing pageantry, music and dance.

The production will include marching bands, drill teams, dance teams and skills demonstrations. International Bands from Australia and the Netherlands are scheduled to perform, as well as Police and Fire Service members.
