Shakespeare by the Sea Presents “Hamlet” and “The Tempest”

Date: July 2nd to August 2nd on Thursday to Sunday
Location: Clover Point on Dallas Rd

Enjoy a night of Shakespeare with the sound and view of the ocean as the backdrop. This year the society is presenting both “Hamlet” and “The Tempest”. In their fourth season the society will perform at either 2:00pm or 7:00pm all of July and then finish the summer with a tour.

Victoria Ska and Reggae Festival

Victoria’s Ska and Reggae Festival is an annual five day music festival in and around Victoria’s Inner Harbour. With the kick off always being a part of the cities Canada Day Festivities, they amp the energy up for the music packed days to come.

This year’s headlines include: HEPCAT, Third World, Morgan Heritage, The Slackers, Mindil Beach, Stickybuds and Mustard Plug – and more than 30 other acts from around the world.

This family friendly festival offers a diverse range of ska, reggae, dub, hip hop, global roots, and rock ‘n’ roll.

6th Annual Tall Tree Music Festival

The Tall Tree Music Festival brings together the attendees and artists to build sustainable and positive relationships with local residents and businesses of Port Renfrew. The festival celebrates community spirit, the environment, and artistic creativity with showcasing world-class musical and artistic talent in this unique and intimate environment.

v  An important fact to note is there are no gas stations between Sooke and Lake Cowichan. (So no gas station in Port Renfrew.) If you do not want to travel by vehicle Costal Sea Ventures is doing boat trips out to Port Renfew.

Painting Beneath the Summer Sky

Richard Wong, professional wildlife artist, will be hosting an afternoon of painting, cheese, artisan bread platter and wine. Wong will be teaching watercolour painting with oriental brushes on Japanese art paper in the beautiful English Inn garden. Everyone is welcome, especially first time painters are encouraged, to participate in this activity to welcome the first day of summer

The Lorax – Live Adaptation

Location: UVic Campus Community Garden at 2100 McKenzie

Sponsored by the UVic Campus Community Garden and FUN Society (Friends Uniting for Nature) this performance will have you experience Dr. Seuss’ beloved tale in a whole new way! “The Lorax” will be performed by UVic students and community members and will engage children, youth and adults about environmental sustainability in a fun and entertaining way! The performance will be followed with the audience able to plant their own seeds to take home. Limited chairs will be available and seating is at first come first serve.

Van Isle 360

Location: Clover Point at Dallas Rd

This biennial race is 580 nautical mile point-to-point race circumnavigating our wild and rugged Vancouver Island. Sailed in ten legs, the course provides inshore, offshore and overnight sailing through some of the most stunning and challenging waters on the planet.

The sailors will be leaving Ucuelet on June 17th on route to arrive in Victoria the evening. June 18th will be a layover for sailors before the final stretch back to Nanaimo on June 19th.

Car Free YYJ

Location: Douglas from Herald to Fort

Hosted by the Downtown Victoria Business Association (DVBA) Victoria will have its first car free day. DVBA is closing down Victoria’s busiest street to have three stages holding music, entertainment and talent throughout the event. Retail and business vendors, artisans, makers, food vendors and trucks will line the street.
