Join the citizens of Victoria in celebrating the 147th birthday of Canada. Our hotel is in a prime location, right across from the Legislative Buildings, to enjoy Canada Day festivities! There will be activities going on all day beginning at 11:00am, so you can come and go as you please.
Family events are happening earlier in the day with the opportunity to participate in all sorts of recreational activities! During the evening, Jon and Roy, a popular reggae band, will be performing on center stage at the Legislative Buildings. Watch for other various artists during the day who will be playing at the Legislative Buildings as well. Furthermore, around 10:20pm, there will be a fireworks display that you will surely not want to miss in the Inner Harbour.

The Legislative Buildings

Across the street from our hotel in the heart of downtown Victoria you cannot miss the Legislative Buildings! A tour of the buildings is offered to the public free of charge from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm during the summer. Throughout the week, you are able to help yourself to a self-guided tour; however, on the weekends and holidays you must join a tour or reserve one. Tours are offered several times every hour! The Legislative also has a dining room available to the public from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm to eat at.
Construction of the Legislative Buildings began in 1893 and was completed in 1897. However, upgrades and details continued up until 1915. This means the Legislative Buildings are around 100 years old!
If you are not interested in participating in an indoor tour, it is definitely worth a quick walk by to absorb the beauty of the exterior structures. The Legislative Buildings are in the heart of downtown, close to other tourist attractions!
Vikings Exhibition at the Royal BC Museum

Location: Royal BC Museum We Call Them Vikings exhibition will be on display at the Royal BC Museum from May 16, 2014 to November 11, 2014.
Victoria is the first North American stop for this exhibition and promises to provide more insight into the Viking domestic life, death, rituals, the significance of their craft and the power of mythology. The symbolism of the Viking ships will also be explored and hundreds of rare artifacts including jewelry, swords, axes and clothing will be on display – some of these items are rare and many have never been shown outside of Scandinavia!

Victoria Ska Fest

Come celebrate the 15th annual Victoria Ska Fest, the longest running ska fest in North America! Ska music originally came from Jamaica, which began the rocksteady and reggae genres.
The festival’s main stage is at Ship Point in the Inner Harbour, close to Victoria Information Center (and not too far from our hotel!). Shaggy, Fishbone and Barrington Levy are amongst several other popular ska artists.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary of running, the TD Victoria International Jazz Fest features jazz and blues music from local artists, as well as internationally-recognized musicians. There are several different genres of music being highlighted throughout the 10 days such as funk, soul, gospel, and swing.
10-time Grammy winner, Bobby McFerrin, will be amongst other well-known jazz musicians. Respected artists, Angelique Kidjo and Cassandra Wilson, will be showcased in the line-up as well. With 9 stages, over 320 musicians and 85 performers, you will surely not want to miss Jazz Fest!

Foodie Film Festival

Vic Fest is an outdoor music festival featuring popular artists such as Said the Whale, Evan Bourque and Towers and Trees. The various music choices are accompanied by food samples from local restaurants in Victoria. Pair that with a beer sampling and a wine garden, and you are set for the day!

Run or Dye

Love wearing colour? Well, now you can literally wear the rainbow! Run or Dye is a 5 kilometer run where each kilometer you are showered in safe, coloured dye. It is a run for everyone no matter how old you are, or how you would like to undertake the 5km. Feel free to dress in a costume or a white outfit, but be prepared to get colour-blasted!

Beacon Hill Park

Have a fun-filled day at one of Victoria’s main attractions. Beacon Hill Park offers a beautiful scenic walk, playgrounds, a water park, several ponds, and a petting zoo! The Beacon Hill Petting Zoo features animals such as pigs, llamas, chickens, and baby goats (which you can brush and play with!). The Petting Zoo is open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.
Beacon Hill Park is just minutes away from our hotel, perfect for walking. Whether it be the beautiful scenery that hooks your eye, or the play parks for children, Beacon Hill has something for all ages. Perhaps you’ll be lucky to see some turtles and the several peacocks roaming around as well!
Don’t forget… While at Beacon Hill Park, you can also stop by Mile 0, the start of Canada’s Highway 1!
Oak Bay Tea Party

Visit the 52nd year of the Oak Bay Tea Party; it is filled with fun activities that are perfect for the entire family!
The Mad Hatter Fun Run will begin around 10:15 am on Saturday, June 7. Enjoy the Oak Bay Tea Party Parade immediately after at 10:30 am. Furthermore, the Opening Ceremonies will transpire at 12:30 pm on Saturday.
On Sunday, watch a bathtub race (yes, with real bath tubs!) along the water at 1:00 pm. Moreover, there will be an airshow Sunday at 2:00 pm which includes skydivers and aircraft units. With several different activities and delicious food, there will be plenty of entertainment all weekend you will not want to miss!
