Victoria Classic Boat Festival

We are nearing the 37th annual Classic Boat Festival! A special event, with over 130 boats from around the world, it is a must see. The festival is crammed-pack with several activities going on as well as massive vessels being showcased during the weekend. The festival is just a block away from the hotel; perfect to stop by on the way to any downtown activity!

It all started in 1977 with a small group of people who wanted to replicate the Northwest America ship. However, there was not enough funding available for this to happen. Soon after, a sponsorship was put in place, and the Classic Boat Festival had been created. The first Boat Festival began with 32 boats in the Inner Harbour. Since then, the event has grown into a huge spectacle!

Victoria Fringe Theatre Festival

Victoria Fringe presents the largest theatre festival on Vancouver Island, with over 45 drama, comedy, spoken word and live theatre shows! Brought to you by independent producers, Fringe Festival showcases alternative productions during the 11-day event!

Victoria Dragon Boat Festival

The 20th annual Victoria Dragon Boat Festival is nearing us! Being one of those most anticipated events of the summer, the Dragon Boat Festival features several races, two stages full of entertainment, and the ‘Forbidden City Food Court’ which presents numerous unique food options. Like to accompany your food with beer? You can do that as well! The festival also has a beer garden. Sit back, eat delicious food, drink beer, listen to music, and watch the boats race by!

More than 80 teams from Canada and the United States will be participating in the Dragon Boat races. The teams will be racing from the Laurel Point to the Inner Harbour in five-boat heats. Each race takes two to two and a half minutes long, with over 70 strokes per minute… talk about insanely fast boaters!

Fun Fact:

The Dragon Boat Festival celebrates the life of a Chinese scholar named Chu Yuan. Every year it is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month.

Victoria Symphony Splash

Time: 1:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Location: Inner Harbour

Walk minutes from our hotel to the Inner Harbour and listen to the beautiful music presented by the 25th annual Symphony Splash outdoor event. The day begins with a Family Zone at the Empress where families are able to bring their children and participate in fun activities including: face painting, a colouring contest, various crafts, a bouncy castle and scavenger hunt!

Music and festivities will be going on throughout the day. Head over to the Legislative Buildings where Naden Band will be performing at 1:00 pm and 2:15 pm. Around 4:00 pm, join a dance party on Bellville Street! Following that, the orchestra parade begins at 6:20 pm.

The main event features the Victoria Symphony performing live, on a floating stage at 7:30 pm! The orchestra will play a mixture of classical and popular pieces while onstage and 9-year-old, Erik Lin, will be featured as a soloist during the concert as well.

Victoria Tango and Latin Arts Festival

The weekend will be packed-full with tons of fusion, classical, folk, jazz and traditional music, as well as Latin American and Spanish dance. Obtain a vast amount of knowledge throughout the weekend with workshops, lectures and classes!

The festival presents Canadian artists with international guests being featured throughout the event. The music you see originated from South and Central America, the Caribbean and Spain.

International Buskers Festival

The buskers are finally here!!! Tomorrow the live shows begin and we are so excited to welcome the international buckers to Victoria. Enjoy the beautiful weather we have been having and check out the annual International Buskers Festival! This is the first ever ‘All Stars’ Buskers Festival showcasing the finest acts, as well as a few new ones. With professional street performers from across the world, there are many talented, unique acts that you will not want to miss!

Furthermore, check out Busk Stops on Government Street where several musicians will be featuring their tricks! You can also reenergize with the various food options along the inner harbour in the International Food Village.

There are numerous acts including comedy, unusually bendy people and circus-like acts! Each day, the stages have various acts, so it gives you the chance to see every busker possible!

Rock the Shores

Enjoy the beautiful weather in Victoria this weekend while listening to loads of diverse musicians and bands in Rock the Shores’ 3rd annual music festival. This year, the festival will be running for three days (all weekend!), rather than its usual two days from previous years.

Popular bands such as Billy Talent, the Naked and Famous and Our Lady Peace will be playing throughout the weekend, as well as several other current and local bands!

Prepare for a weekend full of fun, sunshine and good music for the entire family!

Victoria International Accordion Festival

The BC Accordion Society welcomes accordionists from around the world in its 8th annual festival. Stas Venglevski from Russia and Tian Jianan from China will be amongst other outstanding local performers.

The festival will consist of a Dance Night, Trade Show, workshops, movie screening and free concert in Market Square!

ROMP! A Festival of Independent Dance

Is dancing your passion? Or perhaps you are more of a ‘closet’ dancer who doesn’t dare dance in public, or even around friends? Either way, everyone has their own creative style, whether it be from professional training, or your own unique set of moves. Suddenly Dance Theatre presents ROMP, a Festival of Independent Dance; a free outdoor dance showcase!

Make your way down to Centennial Square where a dance showcase will take place. You can enter to participate in the showcase, but if you are feeling a bit shy, watch others share their stories through dance.

Be prepared to get inspired!
